You can drink alcohol to regain mana, including vodka (which I’m pretty sure gives you resistance to cold damage for a time as well). It is clearly a partially farcical take on the medieval game archetype, with a number of ridiculous skills and dungeon features included. This is a title that I likely never would have purchased on my own, as it didn’t strike me as something I would be overly engaged by. It would be brutal to lose the game after more than 20 hours in a single battle going wrong. My defense strength is hopefully enough to sustain a hit or two of Dredmor if it happens. My idea is that I save up strong wands and crossbow ammunition, hit him and then use my burglary skills to run away. I read up on him a bit and have a general hunch that he's best defeated with strong ranged attacks. I hope my build is successful against Lord Dredmor. Luckily, I never was caught between monsters when that happened. The only danger so far is the odd haywire event. They weren't able to get in more than a few occasional hits which I can heal faster than they come in. In Level 8, I was able to walk right into it and kill one monster after the other. After that, I maxed out burglary to deal with the traps and then berserker rage which helps with the monster zoos. From the archaeology tree, I only learned the second step which allows me to trade in artifacts for XP. I first maxed out unarmed combat, then shield bearer. Unarmed Combat / Shield Bearer / Berserker Rage / Artful Dodger / Burglary / Archaeology / Promethean Magic I went with a random build that looked ok. Clearing the eight levels took about 15-20 hours alone. 10 levels is more than enough as I'm playing with the standard map size which needs a fair bit of grinding.

As I don't have the DLCs except for the free one, there will only be 10 levels and not 15 as with all DLCs. I had a few unsuccessful attempts before but never made it beyond level 2 before.

I'm in my first promising attempt and cleared up level 8. I racked up 27 hours last week and will continue playing, hopefully to win this.
